Topic: Considerations for Running Sweepstakes and Contests in the U.S.

Attendees will gain insights on legal considerations when running a sweepstakes or contest in the United States.  Understanding these considerations is an important step in helping clients structure a promotion to avoid legal implications.

Speakers: Melissa Cairns, Legal Specialist, 3M Company

Melissa Cairns is a Legal Specialist in Consumer Law at 3M Company. During her career at 3M, she has supported brands such as Post-it, Scotch, Scotch-Brite, Filtrete, Command, Nexcare, Futuro and Ace. She provides support to 3M businesses in the areas of marketing, advertising and consumer product safety. In addition to ensuring compliance with CPSC regulations, voluntary standards and bans, as well as with 3M policies, procedures, standards and principles as they relate to product safety, Melissa provides advertising and marketing legal support covering a variety of topics, which include: cause marketing, product claims and substantiation considerations, sweepstakes/contests, environmental marketing, endorsements/testimonials, native advertising, packaging and labeling requirements, advertising disclosures, social influencers, promotional programs and warranties/guarantees.
