Topic: Insurance and Litigation: Understanding the relationship between insurance coverages and civil litigation in Minnesota

This presentation will discuss the basics of insurance litigation, including policy basics, insurance policy and coverage lingo, types of coverages, policy exclusions, insurance subrogation, and disputes that commonly arise between an insurance company and its insured.  Mr. Watson will be identifying the number of ways that insurance coverage and insurance subrogation can be involved in a case. 

Topics include:

  • Property Insurance Coverage – Basics of Insurance Coverage
  • Liability Coverage – Defense and Indemnity for Civil Liability
  • Subrogation for Insurers against Liable Third-Parties
  • The difference (or not) between damages covered by insurance and damages that may be recoverable in litigation

Speaker: David Watson

David is a commercial litigator at Sapientia Law Group PLLC with experience in the areas of property subrogation, construction law, insurance defense, insurance coverage analysis, and other related areas. After graduating cum laude from William Mitchell College of Law (now Mitchell Hamline School of Law) in January 2015, David was the judicial law clerk for the Honorable Sarah E. Hennesy in the Seventh Judicial District of the Minnesota Judicial Branch.
