Topic: Minnesota’s Uniform Electronic Wills Act: Understanding Its Purpose, Promise and Potential Pitfalls
The Uniform Electronic Wills Act took effect on August 1, 2023, expanding Minnesota’s existing statutes in such a way that permits a last will and testament to be created, witnessed, and notarized electronically. Six months in, we’ll take a look at the Act’s impact on the practice of estate planning, whether we’re seeing early signs that it will achieve its intended purpose and address the risks that clients and practitioners alike must be aware of if they choose to utilize remote technologies as part of their estate planning process.
